This gallery contains a collection of images and news pieces related to the arrival of the first Canadian contingent at Plymouth in the south of England on the 14th of October, 1914. It was Oct. 24th, 1914 before the last unit disembarked from the ships. Due to confusion in embarkation and a last minute port switch (for safety reasons) it took a full nine days to complete disembarkation.
The Second Battle of Ypres was the first main battle in which a large number of Canadian soldiers fought. It is considered noteworthy largely as it marked the first time chlorine gas was used on the Western Front.
This sub-album contains a gallery of images and another of videos depicting Canadian Forces on the move on the Western Front. It also contains a gallery documents relating to the Canadian Expeditionary Force in the First World War and a gallery of images of modern Canadian Forces predominantly from the recent mission to Afghanistan.
